Choosing Your Winter Bedding
The only prerequisite for winter bedding is that it should be made of material thick enough to keep you warm during the winter season. This allows for a wide array of choices, the most common of which are wool, fleece and luxurious materials like silk and satin. There are almost as many different sizes and styles available as there are consumers to buy them. Even though cotton is a desirable and very versatile fabric, unless it is in the form of a quilt, it is rather useless in winter.
One of the best insulators against the cold are down comforters filled with light and fluffy bird feathers. The most expensive of this ilk are those made of 100% pure white goose down. Unfortunately, even though the user is guaranteed to be as warm as toast while lying under one of these comforters, they are not the best choices for those who are allergic to feathers. Consider purchasing a duvet as they are easy to wash and store and cost a fraction of the price of a new comforter.
Flannel bedding keeps you toasty warm on those cold winter nights. Polar fleece, which is a man-made polyester fiber, is very soft and light-weight. It generates body heat by retaining air in the cavities of core fibers. It does also tend to generate very high static electricity charges, which makes it a magnet for pet hairs and dust.
So choose your winter bedding carefully and wisely. Care for it properly and it will keep you warm and fuzzy for many winters to come.
