- First of all, lay the sheet on a bed or a large table and fold in and smooth all the edges. Then slip your hand into the top two corners of the sheet. (If I have to be more specific here, you better forget the whole thing.)
- Fold in half horizontally, sliding the top gathered end into the pocket of the bottom gathered end. (Do not fold in animals or humans who may be napping in or on bed as they create uneven and sometimes noisy folds.)

- Arrange and fold the corners neatly. Turn in selvage edges enough to make four straight sides. Then fold in half and then in half again. (You will know you did it right if all four corners are stacked together, and the sheet is now one long strip.)
- No matter how you may feel about geometric forms, now fold that long strip in half, then again in half (or thirds, depending on the size of the sheet). When you are finished, you should be looking at a compact and very neat square. (If you have any other geometric form in your line of vision, you have done more than a little something wrong and might as well forget the whole thing. Return the sheet for a non-fitted one and start all over again.)
Smooth and place sheets on shelf. Store sheets in sets in the manner in which you use them (for example, flat, fitted, and cases). Make your life easier by marking shelves with sheet sizes, or use different shelves for different size sheets. Or make your life more difficult and perhaps a little exciting by not labeling anything at all.
Changing the sheets may turn out to be an unexpected adventure!
So don’t just stand there. Fold, fold, fold!
