How to Easily Change A Duvet Cover: Two Ways
by Beth L.

Changing the duvet cover is very easy to do by yourself in a series of simple steps: it takes about 1 minute after you’ve done it once or twice.

Choose the “traditional two-armed method” or the “full body fun” method (below):

Traditional Two-Armed Method:

  1. Lay your duvet cover on the bed with the open foot at the bottom of the bed. Place your comforter at the foot of the bed.
  2. Move to the left side of the bed and grasp the top left corner of your duvet cover in your left hand.
  3. Grasp the left top corner of the comforter with your right hand, guiding the comforter into the duvet cover until the top left corners meet.
  4. Hold the corners of the comforter and the duvet cover together with your left hand so the corners won’t slip out of position.
  5. Pull the duvet cover over the comforter using your right arm and hand to guide the left side of the comforter into position against the left side of the duvet cover.

Now repeat the steps using your opposite hands on the right side of the bed:

  6. Move to the right hand side of the bed and grasp the right top corner of the duvet cover with your right hand.
  7. Grasp the right top corner of the comforter with your left hand, guiding the comforter into the top right hand corner of the duvet cover until the top right corners meet.
  8. Hold the corners of the comforter and the duvet cover together with your right hand so the corners won’t slip out of position.
  9. Pull the duvet cover over the comforter using your left arm and hand to guide the right side of the comforter into position against the right side of the duvet cover.
  10. Insert the foot corners into the foot of the duvet, fasten the duvet and shake into position.

Full Body Fun Method (works a bit better if you are tall):

  1. Lay your comforter on your bed with the foot of the comforter at the head of the bed.
  2. Turn your duvet cover inside-out and lay it over your comforter with the duvet cover opening at the foot of the bed.
  3. Crawl into your inside-out duvet cover and stand at the foot of your bed. You will be wearing the inside-out duvet cover over your body (like a Halloween ghost). Stretch your arms to full extension.
  4. Put your left hand into the top left corner of your duvet cover and grasp the bottom left corner of your comforter at the foot of your bed. You may have to “feel your way” to the corner.
  5. Put your right hand into the top right corner of your duvet cover and grasp the bottom right corner of your comforter.
  6. Bend forward, do not let go of the corners of the comforter and duvet cover and shake yourself out of the duvet cover as you pull the corners out through the opening with you. The duvet cover will be turned right side out as you exit through the opening and the top corners will be in position.
  7. Tuck each corner of the comforter into the corners of the duvet cover opening, and fasten.
  8. Shake the duvet cover and comforter and flip together so the opening is at the foot of the bed -- enjoy!
