The Cal. King bed is 4 inches
narrower and 4 inches longer
than a regular (Eastern) King
bed. Legend has it that
David Bergeson from Concord,
California invented the
California King mattress in
1982. Bergeson had
extremely long legs and short
arms and had trouble
reaching for his wife during
the night, so he developed a
narrower longer bed. It is
also called "California king"
because of the shape of the
state of California (long).
