Bamboo? Yes, bamboo. Bamboo fabric has virtually exploded in popularity over the last several years as an incredibly soft, strong, and versatile material-qualities ideally suited to your sophisticated taste in bedding. A Chinese symbol of long life and a symbol of friendship in India, the venerable (and amazing) bamboo plant is one of the world's greatest renewable forest resources. Environmentally friendly, naturally-sustainable bamboo forests help absorb greenhouse gasses, produce lots of oxygen, help preserve watersheds, and don't require pesticides or fertilizers. What's more, the bamboo plant can grow up to several feet a day! And, like the bamboo plant itself, bamboo fabric is ultimately 100% biodegradable.

To make bamboo fabric, typically three-four year old bamboo plants are harvested, pulped, and then processed into fibers using one of several different modern methods. The resulting bamboo threads (or 'yarns' as they're sometimes called) are smooth and round. When they're woven together, they produce a fabric that feels silky and light on the skin. The end product, bamboo fabric, is both strong and soft, has reputed natural antibacterial qualities, and has excellent wicking (moisture absorbing) characteristics to keep you cool and fresh all night long. According to experts, bamboo fabrics also have great insulating qualities due to millions of microscopic air pockets in the individual fibers and are reportedly non-allergenic as well. Finally, bamboo threads also blend well with other natural fibers like cotton, hemp, and silk. These blended fabrics make excellent bedding materials.
